Stuti Dave, who goes by the moniker Stuti the Activist, understands that being a leader at 11-years-old can sometimes mean being underestimated. However, much like the struggle to secure a publisher for a book, she remains undeterred and finds a way forward. The young author, born in London and raised in Mumbai, India, self-publishes her books such as Emmie’s Adventures, has edited a friend’s published literature, and founded Operation Greenstitch, an initiative aimed to spread awareness about the consequences of fast fashion.

“Recently, I figured out about fast fashion in a school project,” Stuti informs SBC over a Zoom call. “So it was about the SDG (Sustainable Development Goals)…and I found out about cloth wastage and how it hurts the environment. It made me really sad. I just wanted to somehow fix it. So, then my friends and I, came together and Operation Greenstitch was born.”

The Sustainable Development Goals were adopted by members of the United Nations as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with 17 global goals designed to promote “peace and prosperity for people and the planet.” Through Operations Greenstitch, Stuti hosts awareness sessions at libraries that educate about sustainable fashion choices.
