One of the mottos writer, book publicist, and author Candace Waller adheres to is the belief that you have to try everything–at least when it pertains to passion projects. As a then book publicist to literary giants James Patterson and Bishop T.D. Jakes, she observed how they robustly promote their work.
“They think of all kinds of angles,” Waller recalls to So Booking Cool. “It’s not like ‘Oh, I wrote a book’ and they sit on it.”
Both authors, according to Waller, constantly made deals and sought opportunities to share their literature with the world. She has since adopted this mentality for her own work, even when others questioned her methods.
“People say ‘Why are you doing that?’ I say ‘Well, I have to ask.’ You might not give me an interview, but if I don’t ask, I’m definitely not going to get it. But if I ask, you may say yes. You may say no, but maybe I can do [something else]. You don’t know what someone is going to say, so you have to put it out there. You have to try a lot of different things.”
